Song of the Elves OSRS Guide: A Complete Game Walkthrough

Table of Contents

For 17 years, the biggest quest in Old School RuneScape history told us a sweeping story involving Elves, plagues, perilous dungeons, Kings, tyranny, treasure, sick sheep, chompy birds, and puzzles. But it seemed that Mourning’s End Part II would be the end of this story. For a quest line that lasted from 2002-2005, it wasn’t likely we’d see a conclusion to the Elf series.

However, in 2019 this quest came to a close with Song of the Elves, 5029 days, 165 months, or 14 years after Mourning’s End Part II. It seemed too good to be true that this even happened.

It came as a shock to Runescape fans when the final quest in the Elf series was announced at RuneFest 2018. After playing the quest, a question was on everyone’s mind: was it worth the wait? If you plan on grinding to get to the Song of the Elves, know you’re in for a treat.

Let’s take a look at the Elf series questline and the requirements you need to start Song of the Elves. We’ll also walk you through Song of the Elves with tips on how to pass difficult areas.

Song of the Elves Overview

song

Difficulty: Grandmaster

Length: Very Long

Start Point: Speak to Edmond in his home located in East Ardougne, North of Flying Horse Inn.

Song of the Elves is the 8th and final mission in the Elves series of quests.

You started your adventure by speaking to Edmond, who asks you to rescue his daughter Elena from Plague City. With Elena, you figured out that the plague that was supposedly ravaging West Ardougne was a hoax created by King Lathas to section off the West part of Ardougne. After speaking to the King, he explains he did this to protect Gielinor from the Elves.

After concluding Biohazard, King Lathas asks you to travel through the Underground Pass to find Lord Iorwerth, the King’s ally, so he can help you stop King Tyras, who he suspects is trying to revive the Dark Lord. Once you find Iorwerth, he joins forces with you and the King in Regicide. You end Tyras’ evil after barrel bombing his tent in Tirannwn.

Once returning to Lathas, you are confronted by Arianwyn in Roving Elves, a rebel elf who opposes Lord Iorwerth. Arianwyn explains that King Lathas and Iorwerth are actually the evil ones who wish to bring back the Dark Lord and Tyras was the only one who tried to stop them.

In Mourning’s End Part I, you work with the Elven Rebellion to understand the true reason for the plague. You and the Rebellion find out it was to disguise the Temple of Light, which is integral to summoning the Dark Lord. In Mourning’s End Part II, you atone for the death of Tyras by halting Lathas’ and Iorwerths’ plants by sealing the Death altar, preventing the Dark Lord from rising.

In Song of the Elves, you’ll set your eyes back onto King Lathas and Lord Iorwerth for a final confrontation. Once you enact your revenge, you can save Gielinor for good.

Enemies in Song of the Elves

Mourners

It’s no surprise that you’ll run into some strong foes during this quest. As a Grandmaster difficulty mission, the initial set of enemies may seem underwhelming, but as you venture through Song of the Elves, you’ll come across the following babies:

  • Mourners: Level 24, 51, 106
  • Paladin: Level 49, 121
  • Knight of Ardougne: Level 27, 53
  • Iorwerth Archers: Level 90
  • Arianwyn: Level 212
  • Essyllt: Level 236
  • Fragment of Seren: Level 236

Most of the enemies in Song of the Elves will be much lower than your current level, so the focus of your loadout should be on the final boss, Fragment of Seren. Since she’s weak to magic attacks, it’s important to bring equipment that focuses on magical accuracy and strength.

Equipment Type Examples Preparation
Mage Robes Mystic, Void Knight, Ancestral Need high magic to equip Mage Robes. Ancestral Robes have the highest requirements: 75 Magic and 65 Defence.
Staff Trident of the Swamp, Weapons That Autocast Ancient Magicks like Ancient Staff or Master Wand Trident of the Swamp: Requires 75 Magic to equip. Must have at least 300 charges before Fragment of Seren.

Ancient Staff/Master Wand: Requires 50 and 60 Magic to Equip respectively. Only equip if using blood spells.

Other Ranged Items Magic Shortbow (50 Range), Toxic Blowpipe (75 Range) If your Magic stat isn’t great, but your ranged stat is, equip ranged items with a magic attack. Or, you could also come with a ranged weapon to switch out.
Items With Magic Bonuses Tome of Fire, Occult Necklace, Seers Ring, etc. Try to find items that don’t have a level requirement if possible.
Weight-Reducing Clothing or Items (Between Encounters) Graceful Set, Spotted Cape, Agility Cape, Max Cape, Boots of Lightness, Penance Gloves, Stamina Potion, Antipoison Allows you to run for a longer amount of time. Antipoison cures poison and immunity to poison for 90 seconds.

Healing Items/Food: Always bring healing items and food into your battles, especially with the Fragment of Seren. Sharks and Monkfish are some of the best cooked healing items in the game. Saradomin Brew and Super Restores should be included in your inventory, as well.

Warping/Teleportation Items: Many spells, equipment, and items will help you get this quest over with as quickly as possible. Try to find and make Ardougne Teleports, West Ardougne Teleports, a Teleport Crystal, Games Necklace, and Iorwerth Camp Teleport.

Song of the Elves Walkthrough

Part 1: The Escape of Elena

Items Needed For This Section: Steel Set, Red Dye, Purple Dye, Silk x1

Items That Increase Your Success: Ardougne Teleport, West Ardougne Teleport, Stamina Potion, and/or Weight-Reducing Clothing

To begin the quest, speak to Edmond (a bald man with a long, brown beard) inside his home in East Ardougne, located in East Ardougne, North of Flying Horse Inn.

Cabbage:

If you don’t have a Cabbage, Edmonds’ garden has a patch of this vegetable growing wildly. Use a spade to harvest the Cabbage, then put it in your inventory.

Edmond explains that his daughter, Elenda, is telling people the plague is a hoax and was taken prisoner by the Knights of Ardougne for treason. To accept the quest, agree to help, then speak to King Lathas in the castle south of Edmond’s house.

King Lathas will explain that he had to imprison Elena for speaking the truth. The King is worried that if he’s exposed, his subjects will worry about the Dark Lord and the threat they impose.

After returning back to Edmond, you tell him the news about his daughter and what transpired in the Elf series quests. Edmond informs you that Elena is in a prison beneath the castle and says you need to disguise yourself as one of the Knights of Ardougne to enter the prison.

Quest 1: Find a Steel Full Helm, Steel Platelegs, Steel Platebody, Red Dye, Purple Dye, Silk x1 to create a full set of Knights of Ardougne Armour

  1. Use the Red Dye on the Steel Full Helm to obtain the Ardougne Knight Helm.
  2. Speak to Edmond’s wife, Alrena, and she will give you a Tabard.
  3. Use the Tabard on the Steel Platebody to obtain Ardougne Knight Platebody.
  4. Equip your Knight Helm, Knight Platebody, and Steel Platelegs. (If you have less than 5 Defence, speak to Edmon to polish the Steel Platelegs into Ardougne Knight Platelegs.)

Talk to Edmond while wearing the Knight Armour, and he’ll instruct you to go to the prison.

Go to the prison in the basement of Ardougne Castle. When the guard stops you, tell him your name is Tim or Sue. Then, speak to Elena at the back of the prison. She explains she wants to break out through a grate that runs into Ardougne Sewers, but she needs Sulphuric Acid to dissolve it. Elena says you can find Sulphuric Acid in her home, but not where you should look.

Quest 2: Find Sulphuric Acid in Elenas’ Home

Elenas Home

  1. Enter Elenas’ Home, which is East of Edmond’s house beside the log balance.
  2. Search the cabinet. Select “Thick Clear Liquid” to receive Clear Liquid.

Bring the Clear Liquid (Sulphuric Acid) to Elena and leave the prison while she’s escaping. Go back and speak to Edmond, who will tell you Elena is hiding in West Ardougne at Rehnisons’ Household. Travel to West Ardougne and go to Rehnison Household west of Mourner’s Headquarters. Speak to either Martha or Ted Rehnison, who explains Elena is with the resistance group in the basement. You can access this room by searching the east bed.

Speak to Elena, who will tell you about the Ardougne Resistance. Elena founded this group directly after figuring out King Lathas lied about the plague to overthrow him. You explained what happened when you infiltrated the mourners. The Councilor Halgrive speaks to you.

Councilor Halgrive says that the council can’t overthrow the King despite the fact that if he isn’t usurped, he can serve as an interim ruler. He explains he wants you to make the people of Ardougne angry by posing as a Knight of Ardougne and causing havoc under the King’s orders.

Part 2: Causing an Insurrection

Quest 4: Defeat Mourners

Defeat Mourners

To activate this fight, go back to Rehnison Household, enter the basement and speak to Elena. The battle will begin in West Ardougne and starts with 2 sets of Mourners.

First Set 10 Mourners: Level 24 (x3), 51 (x5), 106 (x2)
Second Set 11 Mourners: Level 24 (x3), 51 (x4), 106 (x4)

You shouldn’t have a problem defeating these Mourners. If you have Protect from Melee, decent enough armour, and Guthan the Infested equipment, it will be a walk in the park.

After completing the second set of Mourners, you can resupply at the bank if need be. Then, talk to Councillor Halgrive or Elena to start the battle in East Ardougne.

Quest 5: Defeat 5 Strong Enemies

On the second floor, you’ll face multiple guards of various levels and classes.

Third Set Knight of Ardougne (Level 27 x5, 53 x1), Paladin (Level 49 x6, 121 x2)

A cutscene will trigger when you defeat the guards showing the resistance to finding King Lathas in a wardrobe. You can speak to the King and ask him questions about his collusion with Lord Iorwerth and the Dark Lord. Whether you speak to him or not, he is executed by the resistance.

After the execution, you are knocked out by Hooded Figures and taken to Iorwerth Camp.

Part 3: Iorwerth Camp and Arianwyns’ Plan

Lord Iorwerth

You, Elena, and the resistance wake up at Iorwerth Camp and see Lord Iorwerth.

Arianwyn, the leader of the Elf resistance, rescues your party. Lord Iorwerth explains he lied to King Lathas to access West Ardougne and the Temple of Light specifically to summon Seren. Arianwyn doesn’t believe him and says Seren has been dead for years, but Lord Iorwerth discovered after he broke a seal at the Grand Library that Seren is trapped in the Temple.

After Lord Iorwerth lets the resistance go, Arianwyn and your party travel to Lletya and call a meeting. Arianwyn asks you to speak to a Lletya citizen named Ysgawyn (located in the upper platform of Lletya) and Elena (located near the pond). Be sure to speak to Ysgawyn first.

In the meeting, Arianwyn gives you and your party a rundown of Elven history, including when Prifddinas became a crystal seed. She asks the party to search through Waterfall Dungeon to find clues on Seren. Speak to Arianwyn before going to Waterfall Dungeon and Baxtorian Falls.

Part 4: Waterfall Dungeon and Baxtorian Falls

Items Needed For This Section: Rope, Cabbage, Wine of Zamorak/Zamorak Brew, Adamant Chainbody, Flowers/Irit Leaf, Black Knife/Black Dagger, Nature Rune, Glarial’s Amulet (Iif Waterfall Quest isn’t complete)

Items That Increase Your Success: Teleport Crystal, Games Necklace

Note: Before you leave for Waterfall Dungeon, bring a Rope or you won’t be able to proceed further.

Glarial’s Amulet in your inventory (or equip) to gain entry to this dungeon the first time, but not after.

After traveling to the Waterfall Dungeon, walk forward and through the door in the East (or right if you look at the map) where you’ll encounter Skeletons (Level 58) and Skeleton Mages (Level 19). Search through the northern stacked crate to find a key. Travel back out of this room and to the Western hallway and North through 3 doors. You’ll run into Shadow Spiders (Level 46).

Past the two single doors, Arianwyn will be waiting for you (if not, you’ll have to speak to him back in Lletya). You’ll know you’re in the right room if you see two statues, 6 pillars, and a Chalice. Arianwyn will hand you Ode to Eternity which will help you solve the puzzle.

Quest 6: Complete the Pillar Puzzle

Warning, Lost Items: The placement of each item is randomized every time you leave and enter the room and the clues reset in the Ode to Eternity each time, as well. If you place all 6 items down and any item on a pillar is incorrect, you’ll have to leave the dungeon and buy or collect them again. You can remove any item before completing the puzzle.

Each item will have a number attached:

  1. Nature Rune
  2. Flowers or Irit Leaf
  3. Black Knife or Black Dagger
  4. Wine of Zamorak or Zamorak Brew
  5. Adamant Chainbody
  6. Cabbage

The layout will change every time you leave the room, so you must inspect the pillars to find the order as indicated in the Ode of Eternity. We found that the following clues are consistent:

  • Northwest Pillar: States the number it’s next to. Corresponds with West Pillar.
  • West Pillar: States it’s not opposite of a number. Corresponds with Southeast Pillar.
  • Southwest Pillar: States which number it is. Corresponds with itself.
  • Northeast Pillar: States the number it’s opposite to. Corresponds with Northwest Pillar.
  • East Pillar: States what number it isn’t next to. Corresponds with itself.
  • Southeast Pillar: States what number it isn’t. Corresponds with Northeast Pillar.

When you complete the puzzle, the state of Baxtorian will come to life as Baxtorian himself. Arianwyn will take him back to Lletya. When you’re ready, join them in Lletya.

Part 5: Before Prifddinas

Before Prifddinas

Items Needed For This Section: Cadantine Seed, Seed Dibber, Runite Bar, Pickaxe, Hammer, Pestle and Mortar, Vial of Water

Items That Increase Your Success: Teleport Crystal, Antipoison

When you return to Lleta, speak to Arianwyn and Baxtorian. To learn more about what Lord Iorwerth was planning with the Dark Lord, Baxtorian suggests you can enter the Grand Library of Prifddinas if you can break a spell that only gains Iorwerth Elves entrance to it.

Baxtorian thinks Lord Amlodd, an advanced magic user, is up to the task. To complete this section, you need multiple ingredients to complete a potion. Speak to Elena, who is next to a pond beside the rest of the group, and plant a Cadantine Seed in the farming patch nearby.

Speak to Elena again and she’ll say that the Elder Cadantine will take a while to grow, but you can speak to Baxtorian or Arianwyn while you wait. This will start a group of quests.

Note: There are plenty of traps in Isafdar. Bring Antipoisons just in case.

Quest 7: Locate Lord Armlodd

Return to Baxtorian. He’ll tell you how to locate Lord Armlodd, who gave him a crystal seed, but Baxtorian hands it over to you. Speak to Eluned, who is North of the farming patch you planted the Cadantine Seed in, and they’ll enchant the crystal.

When you rub it, you appear in the Enchanted Valley. You’ll immediately see Lord Amlodd. Speak to him and he’ll ask you about your opinion of the valley. After giving any answer, he’ll return you back to Lletya. Make your way back to Baxtorian for another quest.

Quest 8: Locate Lady Trahaearn

Locate Lady Trahaearn

Baxtorian will ask you to locate Lady Trahaearn. To find her, leave Lletya and walk South then West through a tripwire trap. Walk North, then West though a dense forest. After exiting the forest, head North through a leaf trap and continue East until you reach the Underground Pass.

Inside the Underground Pass you’ll see the Well of Voyage. Go directly South of the well and use your Pickaxe to destroy a blocked crevice. Inside, you’ll find Lady Trahaearn who asks you to repair her exoskeleton. Repair it with a Hammer and Runite bar and return to Lletya.

Quest 9: Make the Potion

When you return back to Lletya, speak to Elena who will give you the Elder Cadantine. Speak to Arianwyn to receive the Old Crystal. Use the Pestle and Mortar on the Old Crystal to make Crystal Dust. Use the Elder Cadantine on the Vial of Water to receive the Unfinished Potion.

Combine the Unfinished Potion with the Crystal Dust to make the Inversion Potion.

After making the Inversion Potion, speak to Arianwyn to give it to him. A meeting will begin where the party decides you should enter the Grand Library despite Ysgawyns’ disagreement. Speak to Lord Amlodd (beside Arianwyn) who will teleport you to The Grand Library.

Part 6: The Grand Library

Lord Iorwerth has unlocked the Seal of the Forgotten, so make your way towards the center of The Grand Library and click on the seal. The memory will show that Serens’ dark guilt is sealed in the Temple of light, but the Shrine at Gorlahs’ orb of light can unlock her darker parts.

Quest 11: The Seal of Ithell

The Southeast room on the same floor as the Seal of the Forgotten lies the Seal of Ithell. Enter the room to find a series of mirrors that reflect light. Turn the mirrors like the photo below.

The light should connect to the East side of the room. When this happens, the next Memory of Seren will show that Ceidwad wrote down Serens’ teachings in the Cerddi back in the elven homeworld of Tarddiad, where Seren first encountered the first elves.

Quest 12: The Seal of Cadarn

To start the next quest, go to the center of the room. On the map, the Crystal Dispenser will look like a white square with a single line at the top. You must interact with it to receive mirrors.

  • Use the stairs next to Mirror #5 to travel to the first floor.
  • Go directly West from the stairs and place Mirror #6 in the corner.
  • Go back East and place Mirror #7 in front of the stairs.
  • Use the stairs directly in front of Mirror #7 to go back upstairs.
  • Place the Cyan Crystal directly in front of you as soon as you come upstairs.
  • Use the stairs directly behind you to travel to the top floor.
  • Place Mirror #8 directly in front of you.
  • Go West, South, then East. Place Mirror #9 in the path of the cyan light.
  • Go West, North, then East and travel back to the middle floor.
  • Go East, South, then West and place Mirror #10 in the path of the cyan light.
  • Go South and follow where the light turns blue. This is the Seal of Crwys.

Interacting with the Seal of Crwys will activate another Memory of Seren. It will show how she gave a bit of her essence to extend the lives of Elves to several thousand years. Serens’ gift was given in a song called the Song of Creation or the Song of the Elves.

After you enter the camp you can speak to someone called “Elf Hermit” who is actually Lady Hefin. She’ll teleport away, which completes the quest. Head back to Latia.

Speak to Baxtorian before going to the next section or you can’t enter the cave.

Once the Iorwerth Warrior and Iorwerth Archer are defeated, pick up the orb of light from the chest at the back of the cave. Return to Lletya and talk to Baxtorian for your next mission.

Part 8: Locating the Missing Ysgawyn

Missing Ysgawyn

When you speak to Baxtorian, it’s revealed that Ysgawyn left in a huff and is acting suspicious. He says that Elena, who is standing beside the place where you planted the Cadantine Seed, was the last person who saw Ysgawyn. Find Elena and choose the second out of 3 options, and she’ll explain she doesn’t know where he went, but you can find tracks near Lletya’s entrance.

Quest 22: Track Ysgawyn

Follow the tracks West out of Lletya and examine the mushroom or mossy rock through the “pass tree.” Now begins the tracking sequence. If you get lost, refer back to the prior inspection point and keep following our walkthrough until you hit the next inspection point.

  1. Follow the first set of tracks. Right before the first tripwire, examine the rocks.
  2. Follow the second set of tracks past the tripwire to another grouping of rocks. Inspect the southernmost rock and continue a little farther South.
  3. Follow the third set of tracks. Examine the elven lamp and go South-West.
  4. Follow the fourth set of tracks. Examine the mushrooms beside the large rock.
  5. Follow the fifth set of tracks over the tripwire to find Ysgawyn and Iestin.
  6. Speak to either character to continue the quest (a battle will follow).

Regardless of who you speak to, you’ll accuse Ysgawyn of being a traitor. He’ll angrily explain that the person beside him is Iestin, his informant from the Iorwerth clan. Iestin was responsible for giving your group information about the Orb of Light. She wished to remain anonymous out of fear that the other Elves wouldn’t trust her. Select either dialog option to start a cutscene.

Part 9: Lletya Invaded

Items That Increase Your Success: Antipoison, lots of Food

Warning, Instanced Area: If you die, your unprotected items will be moved to a grave outside of where the instant took place. Items you leave on the ground will disappear.

In the cutscene, Lord Iorweth discovers the location of Lletya thanks to the rebel Elves. Essyllt, the leader of the mourners in West Ardougne, is preparing their forces to attack Lletya as soon as possible. By the time you get back to Lletya, it’s already under attack by Lord Iorwerth.

Quest 23: Save Two Children from a Burning Building

After another brief cutscene with Elena, Iestin, and Ysgawyn, you’re asked to save two children from a burning building. The locations of each child range from player to player, so when you enter the South building, inspect all examinable objects until you find both children.

After saving the children a cutscene, a cutscene will occur. Arianwyn is revealed by Lord Iorwerth to be the traitor, who turned shortly after learning Seren was going to return. Arianwyn forces Baxtorian to hand over the Orb of Light in exchange for one of the children. Ysgawyn attacks Essyllt but kills him immediately. After some dialogue and a cutscene, you’ll fight a boss.

Quest 24: Arianwyn Boss Battle

Arianwyn Boss Battle

Arianwyn has three different attacks, with each hitting 30+ damage at a time:

Arianwyn (Level 212) Has three ranged attacks: Green Arrow (Regular Attack. Can be Negated with protection from missiles), Orange Arrow (Up to %0+ damage per hit. Slow Moving), and Purple Arrow (Disables Player. No Damage). Cast Protect from Missiles for Green Arrow (Available at Prayer level 40) and move out of Orange Arrows range.

Once you’re victorious, a cutscene will follow, showing the Elves holding a funeral for Ysgawyn. Islwyn, the grandson of Alarial and Baxtorian, asks Baxtorian what Lord Iorwerth was trying to say to the rebel elves. Baxtorian states that he sent an army’s worth of men to save his wife. Angry at the truth, Islwyn runs towards the Underground Pass to find and fight Iorwerth.

Baxtorian will ask you to find the last of the Elven elders: Lady Ithell and Lady Meilyr. He hands you a Clue Scroll, which leads you to Lady Meilyr. Ask Baxtorian how to find Lady Ithell.

Part 10: Locating Lady Ithell and Lady Meilyr

Items Needed For This Section: Saw, Hammer, Spade, 8 Limestone Bricks

Items That Increase Your Success: Stamina Potions, Anti-Poisons, Fairy Ring, Teleport Crystal, Iorwerth Camp Teleport, Camelot Teleport, Zul-Andra Teleport

Quest 25: Find Lady Ithell

Walk around Lletya and find five symbols that are white and glowing. They’re very easy to spot.

  1. First Symbol: Above the group meeting place inside the prayer altar.
  2. Second Symbol: Upper level of the general store between two chairs.
  3. Third Symbol: In the general store, south of the table.
  4. Fourth Symbol: Inside the archery shop, North of the table.
  5. Fifth Symbol: Inside the bank behind the deposit box.

After touching all 5 symbols, you’ll gain some of Lady Ithell’s knowledge. Use it to build a statue in the village (follow the icon on your map) using 8 Limestone Bricks, a saw, and a hammer. After exchanging diable with Kelyn, she will gaze at the statue and also gain Lady Ithell’s knowledge. Kelyn, now a stand-in for Lady Ithell, will leave. Return to Baxtorian to continue.

Quest 26: Find Lady Meilyr

Lady Meilyr

If you haven’t done so before, speak to Baxtorian for the Clue Scroll. Before continuing, make sure you have enough inventory space to unequip your equipment. When examining the clue scroll, you’ll see a yew tree South-East of the Tyras Camp. Don’t go through the Poison Water to get to the camp. Instead, go to Catherby and take a ship to the Tyras Pier.

Once there, go through the camp, then North through the dense forest, the East and South through another dense forest. When you reach the two wire traps, go through them, and you’ll reach the first dig spot. The exact location is 4 tiles South of the three-mushroom cluster.

Note: You’ll likely fail to dig up the scroll if you haven’t done treasure trials before. If this happens, speak to the Observatory Professor at Observatory Reception to receive Chart, Watch, and Sextant. Destroy the Clue Scroll, speak to Baxtorian to receive a new one, and try again.

The next clue is in Zul-Andra. You can reach it with a Zul-Andra teleport, Fairy RIng, or by taking the Catherby ferry to Tyras Pier and heading South-East for a bit. In Zul-Andra, dig East of the Northernmost hurt two steps North of the inconspicuous hole or STASH for the next scroll.

The third clue is next to Prifddinas South gate. You can teleport with an Iorwerth Camp Teleport scroll, but if you don’t have one, you’ll need to make your way back to Tyras Camp via the Catherby ferry method. Travel until you reach the place of the first clue, then go East into the dense forest, North until you hit a leaf trap, and keep going North to reach the camp.

From the camp, go East through a dense forest and turn North. Dig next to the elven lamp.

The final clue is in front of the Underground Pass exit. Head back South towards the entrance of the dense forest you used to get to Priddinas and turn East. Keep going East across the bridge, then South through a dense forest. Head East until you reach the Underground Pass entrance.

Unequip all of your items and spin for Lady Meilyr to appear. She’ll speak to you briefly before leaving. Now use your teleport crystal or walk back through Isafdar to reach Lletya if you need to restore your health or equipt. Otherwise, stay here for an easier path to the mission.

Part 11: Sealing the Underground Pass

Items Needed For This Section: Weapons, Armor, one free inventory spot

Items That Increase Your Success: Stamina Potions, Anti-Poisons, Prayer Potion, Food, Super Restore, Emergency Teleport

Warning, Instanced Area: If you die, your unprotected items will be moved to a grave outside of where the instant took place. Items you leave on the ground will disappear.

Your next destination is the Dwarven Camp in the Underground Pass. While in the Underground Pass from the Elven side, take the well and make your way to the bottom level by reaching the “Descend Cave” location or by failing a bridge jump, which is much faster but hurts.

Quest 27: Place Explosive Potions in 7 Holes

When you arrive at the Dwarven Camp, speak to Elena and Baxtorian. Elena will give you 7 Explosive Potions that you need to place in the North/Outside of the camp’s perimeter. When done, speak to Baxtorian, who wants you to come with him to speak with Lord Iorwerth.

At the meeting, Arianwyn will disagree with Lord Iorwerth’s plans to summon Seren, but he stays by his side. After exchanging dialog, you’ll be asked to start the attack. Select “I’m ready.”

Quest 28: Protect the Barricade for 4 Real Minutes

Protect the Dwarven Camp from Elf Warriors and Archers, who want to destroy your defenses and the camp’s gate. These enemies will respawn infinitely but won’t be aggressive towards you, even if you attack them. Their main concern is the gate, which must be held for 4 minutes.

The strategy here is to attack all the enemies you can to pull their attention away from the barrier. It’s best to have a long-range weapon or AOE spells that attract multiple enemies at once. Fast-hitting weapons, like knives and darts (or Even RPG, if you have one), will work.

When you finish the mission, the barrier will be breached by Elven Warriors and Essyllt, who injures Elena. If you die facing Essyllt, you won’t have to defend the barrier again.

Quest 29: Essyllt Boss Battle

Essyllt Boss Battle

While primarily a physical attacker, Essyllt will randomly use ranged attacks, which are strong.

Essyllt (Level 236) Mostly attacks with melee for up to 40 damage. Strong armor is needed in this fight. If his melee attack stuns the player, he can shoot an arrow that deals 51 damage. The player can block his strikes. He also shoots a blue orb (unblockable) that drains the player’s combat stats by 5. Move out of the way of the blue orb.

After defeating Essylly, Lord Iorwerth breaks into the Temple of Light with Baxtorian and Arianwyn at his heels. Check on Elena, then follow suit. Lord Iorwerth frees the Fragment of Seren, and Arianwyn shoots him out of frustration before the Fragment warps you away.

Final Part: Defeating the Dark Lord

Items Needed For This Section: Weapons, Armor

Items That Increase Your Success: Stamina Potions, Anti-Poisons, Prayer Potion, Food, Super Restore, Emergency Teleport

Warning, Instanced Area: If you die, your unprotected items will be moved to a grave outside of where the instant took place. Items you leave on the ground will disappear.

Note: Use the Emergency Teleport before fighting Seren.

Quest 30: Fragment of Seren Boss Battle

Seren cycles through 4 different attacks in the same order, separated by 15 seconds each, but she typically uses ranged and melee attacks. Use Protect from Missiles, Augury, and don’t stand next to her, but you won’t have to if you use magic attacks, which she’s very weak against.

Fragment of Seren

(Level 494)

Has 242 Attack, 288 Strength, 235 Range, and 1,000 Hit Points.

Very weak to Magic Attacks.

Has four special attacks:

  • First Attack: Teleports player next to her. Avoid it quickly or suffer massive damage.
  • Second Attack: Spawns multiple copies. Attack the right one for the rest to disappear.
  • Third Attack: Summons healing beams that head 4-8 hit points per beam. Any attack will destroy them. Use ranged weapons.
  • Fourth Attack: Teleports next to the player and charges an unblockable near-fatal attack. Eat after she teleports.

Has three phases:

  • 1st Phase: Starts at 1,000 hit points and ends at 666. Second attack creates 1 fake clone, third attack creates 2 healing beams, fourth attack deals max hitpoints -5.
  • 2nd Phase: Starts at 666 hit points and ends at 333. Second attack creates 2 fake clones, third attack creates 3 healing beams, fourth attack deals max hitpoints -3.
  • 3rd Phase: Starts at 333 hit points and ends at 0. Second attack creates 3 fake clones, third attack creates 4 healing beams, fourth attack deals max hitpoints -1.

Her normal ranged and melee attack does 0-12 damage. She may perform a strong melee attack if you stand beside her.

During the fight, prioritize damage over your own health (unless she performs her fourth attack), bring multiple Saradomin Brew into battle, and equip items with magic bonuses, like Seers Ring.

Look at the “Recommended Equipment” section for the best loadout. You may want to bring a weapon switch, a rune pouch, and an emergency teleport for this section. Fill up your inventory with Saradomin brews and Super Restores and use these before you enter the battle.

Priffdinas Restored and Quest Rewards

Restored

After the battle, a cutscene will commence where Lord Iorwerth can’t believe Seren was destroyed. He swears that his reason for summoning Seren was innocent and dies from his wounds. After this scene, you’re taken to the gates of Priddinas, the newly regrown crystal city.

Arianwyn speaks to you and thanks to you for stopping Iorwerth, but that he had to summon Seren. He leaves to reflect on his actions and hopes to redeem himself. You make your way to the gates, where Elena and Baxtorian welcome the player, the first human to enter the city.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Question: Is Song of the Elves the hardest quest in OSRS?

Answer: Although the puzzles in Song of the Elves (SOTE) are difficult, it’s not the hardest quest in OSRS. Mourning’s End II, the quest directly before Song of the Elves, is considered harder because of the Temple of Light. Sins of the Father, Desert Treasure, and Legend’s Quest are some of the hardest quests in the games. If you completed any of those, SOTE is easy.

Question: How long does Song of the Elves take to complete?

Answer: With a guide, Song of the Elves (SOTE) can take 2 hours and 40 minutes to complete. Without one, it may take you over 4 hours. It’s one of the longest quests in the game and requires a lot of backtracking. Getting to SOTE is also a grind. Not counting the 14 years it took for this questline to conclude, it could take you 200+ hours of gameplay to reach SOTE.

Question: Can 1 def OSRS pures play and beat Song of the Elves?

Answer: A 1 def pure player can beat OSRS, and other pures, whether they’re skill pure or combat pures, can. OSRS actually accounted for pure players by putting in NPC players that polish Steel Platelegs to remove defense requirements. In fact, 1 def pures can use specialty polished platelegs, which may make a few Song of the Elves boss fights easier.

Conclusion

Song of the Elves takes a long time to complete, but seeing the end to this magnificent quest is more than worth it.
